What is your labor rate?

The shop service rate is $140/hour.

What is the $7.95 shop fee for?

It's added to all repair orders to cover the cost of recycling oil filters, coolant, garbage disposal, chemicals, rags and cleanup items.

Why do you charge a diag fee?

We spend shop time looking over the bike and addressing your concerns. On older bikes we need to know if parts are available and work up an estimate for you. All of this takes time.

I need my bike fixed ASAP, do you offer an expedited service?

Yes we do. In most cases we can do the job for the While You Wait rate of $135 per hour.

How much for a tune up on my bike?

We will need to know the mileage on your bike and check the factory’s service schedule to see what work is due. It is helpful if you have past service records handy so we know what has been done. Best go to our Tune Up page and fill out the intake form.

What is your policy on special order parts?

We require a 100% deposit on special order parts and do not offer a refund if you decide to not go forward with the work.

I ordered tires from you and now I changed my mind. Can I have a refund of my deposit?

We have a 20% of the quoted discount price per tire restocking fee, so we can refund your deposit less the restocking fee.

Why is old brown fluid bad for my brakes?

At the minimum, old fluid will have dirt in it. The dirt gets under the caliper's O-ring and prevents the brake piston from pulling away from the rotor. This is why your brakes drag, causing brake fade and premature pad wear.

How soon do I have to pick up my bike?

We will contact you by phone, text and email to notify you that the bike is done. After that you have 3 days to pickup without a storage charge. After 3 days we charge $12 per day, every day it is here. Usually a motorcycle isn’t a person’s primary transport, so it’s easy to put off payment and pick up.

If I can’t pick up my bike for some reason is there any way I can avoid storage?

If you pay your repair bill we will try to work out something fair for the both of us.

What is the warranty for repairs?

We offer 30 day warranty on new parts and labor. No warranty on used parts. The sooner you contact us with a problem the better. If there is a defect with a manufacturer's product supplied by us, we will take care of it for you provided it falls within the warranty period.

What is the warranty for parts I supply?

We can’t warranty parts that you supply. If your part is defective or stop working, we would have to charge you to do the job again. That is why it is better to let us source your parts. If there is a problem with the part, the repair is at no cost to you.

Why do you want to know my budget?

This isn't a trick, we want to see if your repairs are possible with the amount you want to spend. It may be helpful to break a big project into stages, each with an individual budget. There are times the repair bill can exceed the value of the bike and we want to avoid that.

Do you repair vintage bikes?

In recent years we have shifted our focus to more modern bikes 2000 and newer.

Why do you need a deposit to work on my bike?

Sometimes we need a deposit and here is why. Non- running bikes may need to have several problems fixed before we get it running. Once running, there could be new issues that pop up. We need to make sure you’re more invested in your bike than we are.

I had my bike repaired at Acme 2 months ago and it doesn't run, do you pay for return towing?

Sorry, we don't reimburse for towing under those circumstances. The bike was working when it left and we don't have control over what went on with the bike while in your possession. If the bike failed on the way back home (or shortly thereafter), we would cover the cost of towing.

A mechanic told me what is wrong with my bike, I purchased the parts and want you to install them.

Since we guarantee our work, we wouldn’t risk relying on other people’s diagnosis. We will need to diagnose the problem ourselves and recommend a solution.

I want you to use parts I purchased online.

Only if we agree to this upfront, before the bike is in the shop. If the bike is already in the shop, the answer is no. We don’t have the space to put your bike on the side and wait for you to order your parts. It’s just not the business we are in.

Do you paint bikes?

We don't have a paint shop and currently aren’t aware of painters to recommend. You would have to make your deal with the painter and transport your parts. Acme is happy to remove and reinstall the parts, but we may have to charge storage for the period of time the bike sits in the shop.

Do you fabricate parts?

We do offer fabrication, provided it is a safe and reasonable repair for your bike.

Do you do insurance work?

Currently, the answer is no. Insurance jobs end up sitting in the shop for months while the customer and insurer decide what to do. Communication between the shop and the insurance company can be difficult. Payment takes longer than you would think. We are looking at what we can do to make this process work.

In the event you can't source a part from one of your suppliers, would you source a used part?

Yes we can. Used parts + shipping are marked up 20% to cover our time.

Do you install swingarm kits?

Sorry, we can't help you with that. Our insurance policy forbids it.

Do you line/coat/seal gas tanks?

Yes, we can seal a tank that has not been sealed before and does not have significant interior rust damage. For a tank interior in good condition the labor rate is 2 hours, plus the cost of the sealer. Not all tanks are worth fixing. If you do a have a tank get the sealing done before you have it painted.

Do you repair/replace spoke wheels?

We offer truing, replacing broken spokes and wheel building. We have partnered with Buchanan's wheel.

Do you service Chinese scooters?

We do not service Chinese scooters because the parts availability and the cost of repairs can easily exceed the value of your scooter. The last thing we want is a $500 bill on a $200 scooter and a customer who disappeared.

Why can't I test ride my bike before I pay?

The main reason is the insurance company. If you test rode before you paid, Acme's insurance would be the primary policy responsible for damages in the event of a claim. Once you pay your bill, the responsibility for claims shifts to your insurance policy.

Do you service electric scooters?

Sorry, we need a gas motor.

Do you service bicycles with a gas motor?

Sorry, we don't have any parts suppliers lined up for that kind of experience.
